Behavioral Parent Training
Behavioral Parent Training helps parents learn effective skills for dealing with challenging behaviors. Specific skills often taught include praise, positive attention, administration of rewards and privileges, rule-setting, ignoring, and consequences. Parents are taught when and how to use these skills.
Training for parents of teens with ADHD teaches techniques that will work for older children. BPT for teens uses consequences like a loss of privileges or having teens do chores instead of time outs. Parents and their teenager meet with the therapist to come up with solutions for problem behavior. They develop targets behaviors and identify rewards.
